Shadows and fears

I was walking down the hall
In the house where love stood tall
Trying to sweep beneath my knots
All the dust and write a note.

Curling words upon the pane
Brought out memories in vain
Thick with time and grime to ponder
Molten tears blended with wonder.

Like a river made of fire
Burning images flow by
Some remind me foul and clear
Of the night you disappeared

First your shadow
Then your fear

Still the pain has stained the hall
And your memories behold
wounds that fester on the wall
Drip like moisture from a tomb.

Years abandoned by all hope
Drove me past another toll
Paid to seal all those untold
Worn like shield to mask what's torn.

Longing lost through yarns of darkness
Brought you back, unfolding lapels
Most remind me loud and clear
Of the day you disappeared

First your shadow
Then your fear.
